Polyurethanes are engineered plastics that exhibit a wide range of superior structural properties such as strength, hardness, ductility, impact resistance, bond strength, thermal insulation and corrosion resistance. These materials are readily available and can be processed easily. Elastomers are a specific class of polyurethanes exhibiting a high tolerance to mechanical stress (rapidly recovering from deformation) and are used in many industrial applications.

The typical SPS elastomer characteristics have been determined for the anticipated extremes of the full operating range of temperatures of –45°C to 100°C in accordance with the appropriate ASTM or DIN standards. Other tests to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion or contraction, to characterize the energy absorption, the material resilience, tear resistance, and dynamic fatigue characteristics have also been conducted. The SPS elastomer is resistant to most common chemical species. Elastogran GmbH is also investigating the effect of modifying different constituent materials, additives, curing temperatures, and processing techniques on material properties.
