R & D
Intelligent Engineering and its partners have and continue to run an extensive R & D programme to further the development of SPS and its applications.
The objectives of the SPS research and development programme were to: • characterize the static and dynamic behaviour of the SPS technology • develop an elastomer core formulation to specification requirements • characterize the core material properties • produce data to verify analytical modelling techniques • establish design values, equations and procedures • develop design philosophies that maximize energy absorption capacity • demonstrate local and global impact resistance • demonstrate by test the fire resistance, blast and ballistics of SPS structures • develop designs and details for a variety of maritime, offshore and civil applications • develop methods of construction and identify production engineering issues • establish structural integrity and performance to achieve maritime and civil approvals
