Side shell protection
Applying SPS Overlay as Side shell protection for FPSOs and other offshore vessels and structures creates a compact double hull, which exceeds MARPOL requirements and avoids the addition of internal cofferdams and sponsons.
SPS side shells for FPSOs are designed and built according to stringent international rules and to satisfy IMO MEPC139 (53) “Guidelines for the application of MARPOL Annex 1 Requirements for FPSOs and FSUs”. SPS is also Class and Flag State approved.
The SPS Overlay process for side shell protections includes: · Surface preparation · Perimeter bars are welded/adhered to hull to define cavities · New top plates are welded/adhered to perimeter bars · QA check of cavities to ensure air-tight · Elastomer core injected · Final finishing including closing injection holes etc
