Clarkson Technical Services named as latest SPS Overlay licensee
December 2009
IE is delighted to announce that Clarkson Technical Services (CTS) has become the latest SPS Overlay licensee.
Rob Duffin, Director SPS Overlay commented, “It is great to have CTS on board as licensees, we have worked together on several projects already and this commitment to promoting SPS Overlay to their clients is a terrific endorsement.” IE and CTS first worked together on the Panamax bulk carrier Edco Star in September 2008. It took thirty days for the team of SPS Overlay specialists supported by a steel workforce supplied by CTS to complete a range of repairs including 3,433m² of tank-top steel reinstatement, alongside the shipyard in Alexandria.
Captain Gulbir Suri, Group Managing Director, Clarkson Technical Services commented at the time: “I was amazed by the speed, quality and simplicity of the repair. It indicated to me that the era of metal composites in ship repair and building has definitely arrived with SPS Overlay”
More recently in July 2009 with support from IE, CTS applied SPS Overlay to the bulkhead of the Alderney Shipping owned bulk carrier Isis at Channel Seaways in the UK and then in October used SPS Overlay on the deck of the OSV Samudra Prabha at DDW in Dubai.
Rob Duffin explains, “As licensees, CTS will, in time, be able to carry out the whole SPS Overlay process, in the meantime we will continue to support them with our specialist SPS Overlay field team.”
CTS’s Captain Suri concludes, “As an SPS Overlay licensee, CTS has numerous new projects underway and we are in discussion with Clarksons’ global clients about how we can now provide them with an even greater range of repair solutions to their vessels.”
