SPS Overlay is a fast and effective means of reinstating and strengthening offshore vessels and structures.
SPS is a permanent solution, which is Classification Society approved and equally suited to vertical and horizontal surfaces, delivers high impact resistance, reduced fatigue stresses and arrested crack propagation.
The SPS Overlay process uses existing corroded or worn plating to form one side of the steel composite panel. Perimeter bars and new top plate are welded or fixed using structural adhesives (for “no not work”) to create airtight cavities into which the elastomer is injected.
SPS Overlay is fast and non-disruptive:
• Insulation, piping and electrical services remain unaffected • Downtime is minimised • Structural integrity is maintained
SPS Overlay offers a choice of repair options. Vessels can remain in operation and on-station during repair or work can be carried out alongside or in a shipyard.
On-station Permanent SPS Overlay repairs can be applied in-situ quickly and with minimal disruption to operations. There is no need to cease production or relocate to a repair yard.
“No hot work” The “no hot work” version of SPS Overlay delivers a permanent repair using structural adhesives to join the steel components and form air tight cavities into which the elastomer core is injected. This design and process has been evaluated and approved by Classification Societies including ABS, and DNV.
